Cruise ship pollution has become a growing problem for our oceans, which has now directly affect our live!
As the cruise industry is growing fast, the rapidly expanding size and number of cruise ships has triggered a worldwide cruise ship pollution crisis.
Environmental laws have not kept pace with growth of the cruise ship industry.
Cruise ships produce large volumes of waste which is dumped directly into oceans. Some of that waste is treated prior to dumping; other waste is dumped directly to the ocean without a second thought.
We already know that cruise ships generate a huge amount of pollution everyday:
> Blackwater: 25,000 gallons of sewage from toilets.
> Graywater: 143,000 gallons from sinks, galleys, baths, showers , laundry, and galleys.
> Garbage and solid waste: 7 tons, non-hazardous or hazardous in nature.
> Hazardous wastes: 15 gallons of toxic chemicals.
> Oily bilge water: 7,000 gallons
> Ballast water
> Air pollution
And we also know that these wastes if released without proper treatment, they can put pathogens, nutrients, and toxic substances into the environment that could threaten human health and aquatic life –
Yes, they do!
Now, what can we do? What should we do? … your choice!
New laws and standards are urgently needed to save our ocean.
Good care is needed to make our Earth the better living place for you and for me!
